Tooth Removal
At Roots Dental Studio we do everything possible to help you keep all of your teeth healthy. That said, sometimes teeth need to be removed to protect your other teeth or your general health. Wisdom teeth extraction is a common surgery. Many people don’t have enough room in their jaw for this problematic extra set of molars. When they erupt at the wrong angle, they can cause crowding, misalignment and pain. There are also times that a regular tooth may need to be removed due to infection, extensive decay, gum disease or trauma.
Are tooth extractions covered by insurance?
Dental insurance plans usually cover a portion of the cost of the extraction. We are an affordable dental office and we are committed to providing a variety of payment options, including CareCredit. We never want budget concerns to keep our patients from getting the care they need.
Are tooth extractions painful?
Our experienced team will do everything we can to make you as comfortable as possible during the procedure. Modern dentistry has taken most of the discomfort out of oral surgery. After the extraction we will recommend which type of painkillers you can use. Applying an ice pack to the cheek directly outside of the extraction site will reduce swelling and help with sensitivity. You can repeat the procedure for 10 minutes at a time as necessary.
Can I eat after a tooth extraction?
The first 24 hours after your tooth extraction there are special precautions that need to be taken. We will provide detailed instructions to ensure a successful recovery. The blood clot that forms inside the tooth socket after the extraction needs to remain intact to prevent dry socket, which is a painful condition that requires additional treatment and can delay healing. Only clear liquids are recommended the first day. After that, soft foods are allowed. As the extraction site heals, regular foods can be added. It’s also important not to drink from a straw or spit with force to protect the blood clot from dislodging. We recommend that you continue to brush and floss your teeth as usual, avoiding the extraction area. This will help prevent infection. Take it easy for a few days after the surgery and you’ll soon be back to normal.
